Maple Glazed Scones

Maple Glazed Scones - Love the thick maple glaze! Super easy recipe!

If you follow me on Facebook I shared my new found love for New Girl. I don't know how I missed this show. It's hilarious! The cast is so perfect and all the facial expressions and one-liners get me every time. I watched the first and second season on Netflix and then had to watch the beginning of the third on iTunes and Fox.com.

Marathon watching shows is probably one of my favorite things. Waiting a whole week to watch a new episode of a show will be pretty tough. #firstworldproblems

So while I wait a week to see what happens next, I made you scones. Maple Glazed Scones to be exact. I heart maple. It's so good on baked goods. This was my first time making scones and these turned out perfect with just the right amount of moisture. But you can still totally dip them in your morning coffee or tea.

Maple Glazed Scones

Scones
3 cups flour
2/3 cup sugar
4 teaspoons baking powder
1/4 teaspoon salt
1 cup (2 sticks) cold unsalted butter, cut into chunks
1 cup heavy cream
1 egg

Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Line 2 baking sheets with baking mats or parchment paper. Set aside.

Whisk together the flour, sugar, baking powder, and salt. Add the butter chunks and use a pastry cutter to cut the butter into the dry ingredients. It will look like crumbles after a few minutes.

In a small dish lightly whisk together the heavy cream and egg. Add to the flour mixture and use a fork to mix until dough comes together. Then use your hands to press the dough into a ball.

Dump dough onto lightly floured surface and press into a rectangle shape. Then use a rolling pin to roll to 1/2 inch thick. Make sure to keep in rectangle shape.

Use a pizza cutter to cut into 12 smaller rectangles. Then cut each rectangle diagonal, creating 2 triangles. You'll end up with 24 rectangles.

Bake for 16-18 minutes or until the edges start to turn golden brown, don't over bake. Allow scones to cool completely before glazing.

Maple Glaze
5 cups powdered sugar
1/4 teaspoon salt
1/2 cup whole milk
2 tablespoons maple extract

In the bowl of a stand mixer with the whisk attachment, add in the powdered sugar, salt, milk, and maple extract. Mix on low until all the powdered sugar is combined. Increase speed to medium and mix until smooth. If glaze is too thick, add a little more milk.

Use a basting brush to coat each scone with glaze. Allow glaze to set before serving. (I had enough glaze to double glaze each scone.)

Makes 24 glazed scones.
